There’s music now for «Leben oder dienen»: Live or Serve — Original Soundtrack, fourteen songs, all sung in English. The album is out everywhere as of today.

First the music, then the book

The novel is still a work in progress and is due out in 2026, so the album comes first, just as it did with «Why Mothers Kill». It doesn’t retell the story but stands beside it as a music project in its own right. If you listen now, you’ll get to know the world of the book before you ever open it.

Eight days in the Carpathians

It’s spring in the third year of the war when three men who would never have chosen one another set off into the Carpathians: a fitness trainer, a programmer and a shop assistant. Ahead of them lie eight days of forest, hunger and cold, with the border waiting at the end. On the fourth day a dog joins them. She knows paths that appear on no map.

Some of the titles lead straight into those days. The Eighth Night opens the album. The Compass Lies recalls the compass Ljocha checks every fifteen minutes, and with Only a Dog it’s hard not to think of the dog who never leaves the side of the weakest of them.
